Description
This Sun 73 is a competition routine that was developed in 1989 by a group of eminent Tai Chi Masters in consultation with the daughter of the originator of Sun Style, Sun Lutang, who originally developed the style in 1919. Sun Lutang promoted the health benefits over the martial arts application, and this style has worldwide popularity.
Sun Style is characterised by its upright, light and nimble movements and that of lively stepping which helps to improve balance, co-ordination and reaction. Because of the higher, more natural stance, it is less stressful on the knee, hip and ankle joints as weight transfers are similar to walking. The bending movements in the torso and legs help to maintain the joints’ natural range of movement.
The characteristic of tai chi Sun Style is to keep:
- head upright, loose shoulders, elbow press down, fingers open and loose, wrist flexible, chest concave, rounded back, waist flexible, legs bend “apparent” and “solid”, sink Qi to Dan Tian and use the mind to direct the Qi.
Internal health benefits are promoted by the many qi gong-style opening and closing of the palms whilst focussing on special breathing techniques.
Included in this tai chi sun style 73 form training manual are:
- Introduction to and a brief history of the Sun Style Competition Form
- Detailed written instructions, complete with almost 200 photographs featuring Master Charles Tsui-Po demonstrating each of the individual movements of the Sun Style Competition Form
- Photographs in sequence for the entire Form
- Each technique is taught and shown in an easy-to-learn way
